Mondays that Feel like Tuesdays

It’s Monday again which means it’s time for me to muse. Today there are three things running through my mind: friendship, the 2023-2024 school year, and Thailand.

Friendship

After seeing this article, How to Live Near Your Friends, shared a week ago, I finally got around to reading it. One of my biggest dreams right now is to live amongst my friends, and I will take every blueprint and every piece of knowledge to do so. Reading abot what Priya did to encourage her friends to live near her was really cool, and even cooler was the fact that it was concrete.

I want to think of things I can do now to start building those skills of bringing people together. I’ve been wanting to start my New Restaurant Wednesday* copycat since the year started but I’ve kept pushing it back. I want to host game nights but I keep coming up with excuses (one of the excuses being that I don’t have a lot of (any) games happens to be quite valid.

I think it’s time to start doing things and just enjoy my time with people when I can. Why not?

The 2023-2024 School Year

Most of my life has been more signinficantly broken up into school years as opposed to calendar years. It makes sense, then, why it was so difficult for me to have a job where I worked straight through the year, having to cobble together short breaks on my own. As this school year creeps closer to the end, I find myself considering my next steps.

I don’t want to stay with my current company; I do want to stay. Working fewer hours is nice, regardless of the money; having the free time is nice, but right now, I need the money. My life in Shenzhen is lovelty; I can enjoy myself more. Life in Shenzhen is rough; I don’t need to be dealing with macroaggressions every other day.

I’ve always been a little indecisive, but the big life decisions tend to hit me the hardest. I feel like whateveer I choose will have a huge impact, and it does. It is my life after all.

Thailand

I’m ending on an exciting note: I’m going to Thailand! My flight is less than a week away! We have our May labor day holiday coming up, and I have five days in a row off (April 29th-May 3rd). China’s strange holiday set up means I worked yesterday and will be working a Saturday to make up for the holiday, but I’m too excited to be too annoyed.

I did wait until the last minute a bit on planning. Initially, I wanted to visit Shanghai, but it was so expensive (i.e. more so than I was expecting), and I had some friends visiting Bangkok, so I got convinced to change my plans. I booked my flight last Thursday, and I booked my lodging today, so it’s all coming together.

I’ve been spending my time researching by my usual googling, but I’ve recently tried watching YouTube vlogs to help me plan. It’s been fun to see some of the places or food and really know I wanted to visit. I also got some ideas for my own videos. I can’t wait to see what Thailand has in store.
