The pro in procrastination is a lie

I am really good at procrastinating. It’s one of those non-skill skills that really only gets better with time. I have perfected the art of productive procrastination when I do something else that needs to be done to make me feel like I am making progress on my ever-changing task list. Procrastination usually feels very good in the moment, and it is when I tend to get my house clean, but I don’t think it’s very useful to me.

When I procrastinate, I do think I do good work, but at the expense of my poor sweet little heart that beats a million times faster because I’m so anxious to get things done. I’ve procrastinated more important things, like writing for myself and editing YouTube videos, for silly things like watching Tik Tok videos and playing games. I think of how easy it is to sacrifice creating for myself to consume the creations of others, and I know it’s not a worthy sacrifice. I want to do better for myself, so hopefully 2023 will be the year I catch myself procrastinating and stop myself in the act.
