Monday Musings on Juneteenth

Hey!

Guess who it is??? Briana! (If you guessed anything other than Briana uhhhh, where do you think you are???) I’m back with another Monday Musing.

Right now, I’m sitting in a Baker & Spice with a mediocre mocha and a subpar snack. For a little bit, I was becoming obsessed with this place. They have pretty good baked goods and the seasonal drink I got the very first time I was here was perfect. Today’s version just isn’t as good, but luckily I’ll live.

Job Updates

A lot has happened since my last update, and the stress of it all is likely why you haven’t heard from me in a little bit. My last day of work happened. It was a Friday. I learned it was my last day the Thursday before. I’m slowly transitioning out of my old company.

On the other side, I signed an offer letter with a new company. I’m excited about the role because I feel like I’ll be properly teaching, but I’ll be honest, I’m not super excited about having a larger workload. Despite the new company offering me more, it was a pretty tough decision to make. With my old job, I could keep having a light workload, *potentially* stay at my school, and I’d be able to attend my friend’s wedding. With my new school, I’d feel more challenged and have more of an opportunity to connect with my students which honestly is my favorite part of teaching. I like getting to know these small humans that are still learning and growing into their own. Ultimately, my new school decided they would allow me to attend my friend’s wedding.

When I say “Everything is always working out for me,” it really and truly is. I don’t know what made them change their mind after saying no to me twice, but they did, and I’m really thankful for that.

Summer Plans

Last week, I made a vision board for the summer. There’s a lot I want to do!

I’ve been thinking meticulously about my summer plans. I have ten whole weeks (now nine) of freedom, and I’m begging myself to use them wisely. I want to relax; I want to work. I want to read, and travel, and develop habits and reach my goals. Most importantly, I want to create systems now that will help me continue to pursue my interests when I have a heck of a lot less time. Here’s hoping!

My Bucket List
My goals which I feel are different from a bucket list. Don’t ask me why.

I want to work on some other things, most notably part two of my Thailand vlog (you can find part one here), so I’m going to cut out early. I’ll leave you with some of my currents:

Okay, I lied. I looked at my last Monday Musing and realized I still wanted to talk.

Writing

I REALLY want to find a writing buddy. I want someone who is on the same level as me who we can really work together to hold each other accountable. Camp NaNo is right around the corner, and I need to figure out what I’m working on. I applied to be the China Municipal Liason. They better pick me because I doubt anyone else applied.

Briana is currently:

Reading: A Lot Like Adios, Building a Second Brain, The Merciless Ones, Siddhartha (I am begging myself to finish this, but I’m not listening)

Watching: Community, (I don’t know how it took me so long to start) Boo B!tch (There was a little twist that happened though and I haven’t been able to start watching again since).

Listening to: My Daily Mix 1 (Andy Grammar, Ben Rector, Mat Kearney, and more) and Daily Mix 3 (Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, carobae, and more) I want to go on record that I don’t know who carobae is and the one song I heard I skipped so idk about that.

Thinking about: How to make this summer all the things I want it to be!

All my love,

Briana

P.S. Are you doing anything to commemorate Juneteenth? I don’t have any plans, but I love seeing people showing up and showing out.
